WHY SUPPORT CASA?
CASA is Advocating for a Safe, Permanent Home for At Risk Children
Every 15 minutes in Georgia, a child is the victim
of confirmed abuse or neglect.
Over 200 incidents of child abuse and neglect
are reported daily in Georgia.
More than 14,000 abused and neglected children
are in state custody at any one time because
they are unable to live safely at home.
Once removed from their homes and placed in foster care, thousands of children
in Georgia become entangled in the juvenile justice and foster care systems.
They wait quietly for the courts to decide their future.
What is CASA?
Children need a voice. They need someone who can promote and protect their best interests.
Federal law requires that a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) or Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)
or both be appointed in all cases of child abuse or neglect.
CASA volunteers advocate for these abused and neglected children by:
• gathering information about the child’s situation
• attending court proceedings
• making a recommendation to the judge to help the court make a sound decision
about needed services for the child and the child’s future
A future where the child will have a safe, permanent home.
Many workers in the child welfare system are often too overburdened
to give detailed attention to each child.
A CASA volunteer can give the child what others may not have - TIME.
You Can Help!
CASA volunteers make a difference in the lives of abused and
neglected children. Many children are still in need, still waiting
for the abuse to stop, still hoping to find a safe home.
These children deserve a safe, permanent home.
Help make a difference - one child at a time.
Speak up for an abused or neglected child in court.
Our Mission
